Start with the listed troop and specialty tags, then read the skill triggers below. A gathering condition, commander-position condition or status requirement changes when an effect applies. Compare a complete march rather than ranking the hero by one factor.
Choose a different second commander in the planner, keep both upgrade states explicit and inspect the bonus sources. Atlas does not simulate full combat damage or prove that a pairing is best for every account.

Hero background
In the frozen reaches where the northern tundra meets the volcanic peaks, ale is often more precious than Gold. It was in such a land that Havarl was born. He has been a mercenary, a miner, a dragon slayer, and the madman in the tavern who is always the first to fall and the last to stand. People do not remember his face, but they never forget the massive hammer that never leaves his side. It is said that this hammer was forged from the skull of a wicked dragon. The beast's fury has yet to fade, and every swing is accompanied by a low, guttural roar.
That dragon once incinerated Havarl's village, crushing everything he held dear. Fueled by a barrel of blood-stained spirits and a resolve for vengeance, Havarl eventually slew the beast, though he was left gravely wounded. To save him from the brink of death, the High Priest bathed his body in dragon blood. Days later, Havarl awoke to find his bones as hard as bedrock, yet his heart now beat only through the sustenance of alcohol. He fears sobriety, for in those waking moments, he can still hear the agonizing groans of his kin.
The High Priest cast the dragon's scattered skull into a warhammer and gifted it to Havarl, telling him, "You have not lost everything. You still have your mentor, your courage, and your sense of justice."
